Community Orchard

Brought into being by our steering committee back in 2023, the Community Orchard is a valuable shared outdoor space for local people to learn growing skills and connect with each other. Orchard volunteers meet on the third Sunday of every month on a drop-in basis to maintain the site by planting, watering and pruning trees, as well as other activities such as clearing pathways. We regularly host events at the Orchard, so keep an eye out on our Events page for updates!

Nurturing Cutteslowe Pilot

Thanks to a £10,000 grant from the Nature Effect CIC (provided by the National Lottery), the young orchard came to life back in 2023 as part of the 'Nurturing Cutteslowe' Project. During this phase of the project, we held 6 orchard work parties, which were attended by over 65 people. Volunteers helped clear and map the site, planted a variety of trees, and learned pruning techniques from a skilled orchardist.

Forging On

With continued support and funding, the Community Orchard, as well as the neighbouring Community Allotment Plot (Plot #4) are now established as local Nature Hubs. A regular group of volunteers tends to and maintains the orchard, officially meeting once a month for a work party, with watering activity in between to continually nurture the space.

How to Get Involved

The Community Orchard volunteer group meets every third Sunday of the month, 10am-12pm. No need to sign up - just drop in on the day. Each session will have a lead facilitator who will have a list of tasks. All levels welcome, from novice to expert - it's a great chance to learn new skills as well as share some expertise. If you would like to be added to the Community Orchard Workers Group WhatsApp group, please email info@cutteslowegreenhouse.org
