Would you like to grow more of your own food and flowers, but aren’t quite sure what you can grow as summer comes to an end?
Our Autumn Sessions are a relaxed, practical way to discover what can be grown through the cooler months. Over six weeks we’ll explore herbs, flowers, winter leaves, sweet peas, beans, peas and spring bulbs, with plenty of opportunities to get hands-on.
You don’t need a garden or allotment to take part. Many of the techniques we’ll explore work just as well in pots, containers, on balconies or in small spaces at home.
No previous growing experience is needed. Just come along, get your hands in the compost and have a go. Herbal teas and biscuits will be available each week, with plenty of time to chat, ask questions and share ideas.
The sessions will follow the changing season and what’s happening in the greenhouse.
Week 2 focus: Summer may be ending, but flower growing doesn’t have to stop. We’ll sow flowers that benefit from an autumn start and learn how to look after young plants through the colder months. We’ll also make simple biodegradable pots from recycled paper and use them for some of our sowing, an inexpensive technique that’s easy to repeat at home.
Alongside the weekly activity, we’ll take care of whatever needs doing and harvest crops as they become ready. Produce will support the wider community and, when there’s enough, be shared with participants too.
